I’ve written about why I think routine circumcision is a bad idea here. Please, please go read it if you’re having a child, considering having a child, know somebody who is having or considering having a child… basically, just GO READ IT. It’s not bloody or gross, just informational.

Hey Phoebe, thanks for this info! Matt and I don’t plan on circumcising any son we may have in the future, but my bil and sil have been telling me horror stories about what can happen if you don’t circumcise. Based on talking w/ their friend who is a sports medicine guy, they say that athletes can have major problems when they are uncircumcised, from infection. When I asked my sil if she was going to have her first son circucised, she shot back in an angry tone, “Have you ever SEEN an infected penis????” I figured I should just keep my mouth shut to preserve familiy peace. Recently, they asked me if we would circumcise a son (if we ever have one!) and I said no….and they started telling me horror stories. (and why is it okay for them to tell me all the reasons I should choose circumcision for my son, but it’s not okay for me to say anything about why they shouldn’t circumcise their sons???). Anyway, thanks for putting together these resources!

I wanted to tell you thank you for posting this!!!! My husband is not circumsized and neither is my son. I decided not to circumsize him and all of my family were trying to fight me on it and I didn’t care. I checked into it before I had him and my husband and I both decided not to. My kid’s doctor is the one that told me not to do it also because I asked his opinion too.
